Summer is right around the corner and we know that you can’t contain your excitement! The long days at the beach, late nights spent around the swimming pool and the all you can eat family BBQ’s are filling up your calendar. Even though the weather is warm and sunny, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t prioritise your health this Summer! There are many precautions you should be taking in the Summer, such as staying hydrated, protecting yourself from the harmful rays of the sun, keeping your liver in good health and preventing and treating bug bites. We want to help you stay protected and help you treat most common ailments. Below you can find some natural remedies:
1. Bug Bites
There’s no doubt that you will experience bug bites this Summer! The thought of the itching and swelling pain has your skin crawling. You know how annoying bug bites can be and as much as you scratch and make an “X” on the spot, the itch just doesn't seem to go away! To naturally treat your bite, we recommend using tea tree oil because the antiseptic properties of the oil help to treat the bite. Simply dab the tea tree oil onto a cotton ball and apply to the affected area.
So you forgot to bring your sunblock to the beach and you stayed out in the sun all day. Now you’re feeling like a burnt piece of toast and you’re as red as a tomato. We can say “I told you so!” or we can recommend a natural way to treat your burn. Aloe Vera can do wonders for sunburn, the actual plant, not the stuff in a bottle! You can pick up the plant at your local health food store. If you sunburn is primarily on your face we recommend taking a gentle approach to washing and treating it. Thayers Super Hazel with Aloe Vera medicated pads is a topical pain reliever and will gently treat your sunburn.
3. Liver Support
There is no denying that a refreshing Malibu Bay Breeze on the beach or a cold beer at your family BBQ is the perfect way to enjoy the Summer heat! Even though alcoholic beverages seem like essentials for Summer, they can have a negative effect on your health. Many forget to stay hydrated during the Summer while they are drinking, which can have a negative impact on your liver. We want your liver in good health all year round, especially in the Summer! We recommend supporting your liver with both milk thistle and vitamin C. You can take both of these supplements all Summer long to ensure your liver is being treated with care!
Dehydration is a common ailment of Summer. Due to the strong sun and the heat, it is easy to become dehydrated quickly. If you are out in the sun, exercising outside or even attending a family BBQ, you should always be drinking enough water. Common side effects of dehydration include a dry, sticky mouth, headache, sleepiness or tiredness and extreme thirst. If you are feeling dehydrated, stay out of the sun and heat and drink plenty of water. Another option is to hydrate with chamomile tea because it is a great rehydrating agent and fluid replacement!
Aside from all of the Summer fun that you will soon be having, you should always keep your health as your top priority. Naturally treating Summer ailments can both safely and effectively improve your conditions. However, if your conditions do not improve and worsen, be sure to contact your doctor and seek medical advice!
